Atlas of Illumination

Atlas of Illumination (2024) TTRPG

This is an "add-on" for tabletop RPGs that allow old-school modules to be played as a solo game. There are other tools that enable solo RPG play, but I felt that none were able to capture the energy of the OSR. This is my solution to that problem, in the form of a zine. It includes wacky and unpredictable curses, a light meta-narrative, and advice for keeping things fun as a solo player. The first in the line of "Dungeonsport" gaming materials.

Grid Wizard/Magician/Magus/Juggler

Grid Series (2023) MUSIC

Grid Wizard, Grid Magician, Grid Magus, and Grid Juggler are a series of albums all released in 2023. It's the product of me branching off into trying new tools and styles of creating music, including trying out physical hardware and digital modular synthesis for the first time. Despite being part of a group, each one sounds very little like the others.

Worldpath Yggdrasil

Worldpath Yggdrasil (2022) MUSIC

This was my first physical release, with a set of cassettes being produced through Ingrown Records. The magic words I had in mind while composing it were "Kirby Prog," and I think the sound ended up fitting that description nicely. Was featured on the "New and Notable" section on the front page of Bandcamp, which was really exciting!

Like a soundtrack to the world's trippiest video game, the neon-like tones on the latest from Heaven Topology conjure whole new worlds.

Three Fairies of Light

Three Fairies of Light (2021) MUSIC

My first foray into composing longform pieces. The album has three long tracks, each representing one of the Three Fairies of Light from the Touhou series. Despite feeling a little amateurish, it's one of my favorites. I'm not completely sure how it happened, but it has a page on the Chinese Touhou Wiki.

Super Book!

Super Book! (2020) MUSIC

To me, vaporwave is about finding odd, underappreciated songs and saying "hey, listen to this." For Super Book! I went trawling through the recesses of YouTube to find weird samples to throw effects onto, primarily (but not limited to) religious kids shows from the 90s.

QQQQ

QQQQ (2020-2024) SERIAL

My first attempt at fiction writing. I didn't intend for it to be a big thing, but after posting it I was surprised to see positive reviews; and so I kept writing. I see it as more of a draft now, with a good story lying somewhere under all the inconsistent, improvisational scuff. Eventually, after this version is finished, I plan to edit it properly into a more satisfying whole.

Chlorine Priestess (2018-???) ???

I'm not really sure what this one is... Maybe my archives are wrong?

Qubitforest

Qubitforest (2016-2017) ART

I got really into photomanipulation for a while, layering interesting sources and blending them together to make psychedelic, soup-y collages. Some of them also include vector art, and a few even have elements I generated in various Python image-processing experiments. I used to be a featured creator on a website called ello.co, before it went defunct. As far as I know, I don't have backups of these images (due to a hard drive failure)... So I think a few of the images I had only posted on ello.co are now technically lost media.

Chromawarp

Chromawarp (2016) WEB GAME

This was my entry for the Ludum Dare 35 Jam. It's an HTML5 web game made using Construct 2. The first time it loads, it's usually just a black screen, but refreshing the page usually fixes it. I never figured out what caused that.

Nethack Modern

Nethack Modern (2015) TEXTURE PACK

Nethack is a very interesting early computer game, one of the original Roguelikes. This is a tileset for it that I cobbled together using assets from Game-icons.net.

Burst 2

Burst 2 (2015) WEB GAME

Burst 2 is a bullet hell web game that features a slow-motion mechanic that automatically triggers when a bullet gets close. The movement is a little too janky for it to be fully enjoyable, but the concept was solid. Features music by Myles Curwin.

Also, I'm a professional web developer. Professional enough to know exactly the architecture this website needs: one singular HTML file edited by hand. No frameworks, no JavaScript, no static site generation, nothing. Just a guy and his code. A tale as old as time. Uncomplected, performant bliss.

Remember when websites had these sections? I'm not affiliated with any of these projects, but I'm a big fan of them all. (Presented in alphabetical order)
